why now
Why we're starting
Salento has had an active IT scene for years, but there's no meeting point for people who work in, study or care about cybersecurity. The big Italian communities sit further north, the national conferences are held elsewhere. The talent is here — what's missing is the room to share it.
SalentoSec is that room. We're starting small, with a clear plan: build a place where cybersec people in Salento can recognize each other, and where the curious can step in without barriers. If you're among the first people reading these lines, you're among the first who can shape what this becomes.

Do I need to be an expert to take part?
Absolutely not. Students, self-taught, curious people are as welcome as professionals. The community exists precisely to lower the barrier to entry.
How much does it cost?
Nothing. No membership fee, no event fee, no paid materials. SalentoSec is non-profit. We may ask for symbolic contributions in the future to cover real costs of larger events, always optional.
Is it a course or a school?
No. It's a community: we learn together, by sharing. No fixed curriculum, no lectures. Meetups, talks, CTFs, exchanges.
How can I contribute?
Show up at a meetup, propose a talk, write a write-up, help us organize. Every hand counts.
Can I propose a talk?
Yes — write to ciao@salentosec.dev. We accept any level, from beginner intros to deep technical dives.
Are you a registered association?
Not yet. The community comes before the legal form: first we grow, then we formally register the APS. Full transparency.
Can I sponsor you or use the community for recruiting?
The community is not a lead-gen channel. If you're a company interested in contributing (e.g. hosting a meetup, offering free training), write to us. No aggressive recruiting in the channels.
Are you only based in Lecce?
Lecce is home base, but all of Salento (Brindisi, Taranto, Gallipoli, Otranto) is fair game. Events can rotate.
